It was not until I created #4WaystoWear a white long-sleeved button down shirt, that I realized I had none in my closet. So I sneaked out to the mall and searched in the stores I thought would have the right formal shirt. Nothing appealed to me. I hated the darts and off-white shirts I saw at LOFT, Express and H&M. Then I spied a nice white shirt as I walked past the men's section at H&M. I was out shopping with my friends so you can imagine the shock on their faces as I picked up a white S shirt from the men's rack. They begged me to try it on and I told them I didn't have to; I knew it was "the one". But for the sake of fitting room selfies and the other items I picked, I tried it on :)
This shirt, unlike the Women's shirts at H&M is pure white and it has no darts so if this is your preference, drop by the men's section. I knew it was the perfect shirt to pair with my burgundy leather pleated skirt which I've had for a month or two.
This look is a great work look that can be pulled off in several ways i.e with a different skirt type, colored shirt, different shoes/bag. I went for an upscale 9-5 look with a white shirt, a pleated skirt and a statement necklace. I think this necklace birthed the outfit, not the other way round. Wait till you see it up close.
If you are in a more conservative work environment (I wouldn't survive there), you might want to opt for a simpler necklace but everything else in this outfit - clothes, shoes, bag, hairdo are very work appropriate.
