Celebrate Africa Gala: Mapinduzi 2014

Our African Students Association recently hosted its Annual Gala and this year's theme was "Celebrate Africa: Mapinduzi". On days like this, your faith is put to test in many ways but God made His presence manifest and it's safe to say that this event was a huge success. The highlight of this year's Gala was having Foxy P, a comedian from the African Comedians group as our host. Together with a student in the organization, they did a fantastic job as our host and co-host respectively.

My role for this event was not restricted to overseeing the planning as I also put together the fashion show segment and modeled. :D Our clothes were designed and handmade by MyStyleOasis. It's one thing to be talented and another to be both talented and a pleasure to work with and I'm so grateful to her for painstakingly putting together all the outfits and working with us throughout the process. Please visit her blog to see all the outfits and event pictures. We also got some outfits designed by my friends at ZiChie Designs, our designer for last year's Gala. They make a great sister duo because although one traveled, she completed the outfits beforehand while her sister represented both of them, modeling in the process. You ladies are truly awesome. Thank you!

I feel so blessed to have been a part of the executive board for this organization, and for the opportunity to put together last year's gala (#Mbeleni2013) and this year's gala (#Mapinduzi2014) during my tenure. I'm so grateful to my team and performers for working really hard to pull this event off. Our guests were amazing for attending and so were all my friends for their support, including the lady who designed our event program in record time all the way from Illinois. We all have what it takes to push our continent forward so even as we Celebrate Africa, our eyes should always remain fixated on the prize. We are the Revolution! #Mapinduzi2014

Getting full length pictures of my outfit was not my priority that night so I had to do a retake some days later, something I never saw myself doing. I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that a retake is never the same as the day of the event. But it had to be done and I'm happy I compromised. The first dress I wore will be in another post as I wore it to another event (signs and symptoms of brokeness).  IMG_9668 IMG_9670 IMG_9671 IMG_9672 IMG_9679 IMG_9683 IMG_9687 IMG_9693IMG_9694IMG_9696 IMG_9704 IMG_9706 IMG_9709IMG_9711
